Doctors, as individuals, have a professional responsibility to be at their best. But there is a shared responsibility to decrease burnout and to aim for wellness so physicians can thrive in their work. In this presentation, Dr. Lemaire will discuss aspects of burnout that are specific to medical trainees, the responsibility that organizations should take in preventing and dealing with burnout, and ways in which medical students and residents can influence the faculties of medicine and hospital committees to share the responsibility for promoting physician wellness. Dr. Lemaire will also present research demonstrating how the culture of medicine and the complex work environment can influence our patient care and our learning.
